Janice Fuller-Roberts
Volunteer Assistant
Janice Fuller-Roberts has built her life around helping others. A proud 40-year member of the historic Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. — an organization devoted to public service — Janice is deeply committed to making a difference every day. That same dedication shines through in her role as a Volunteer Assistant for St. Croix Hospice’s branches in Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Nebraska, where she continues her lifelong mission of giving back.
Her journey with Delta Sigma Theta began as a student at Michigan State University, following in the footsteps of her mother, who became a member in the 1950s. For Janice, membership in the sorority is not just for college years, it’s a lifelong sisterhood devoted to community uplift. Janice was most firmly connected to the sorority’s mentorship program for young girls, teaching the values of service, volunteerism, self-confidence, and practical life skills such as interview preparation and professional etiquette.
The empathy and leadership she’s cultivated through her sorority work have naturally extended into her professional life.
Janice entered the hospice field a decade ago, when a friend who owned a local hospice organization asked her to assist with writing projects. Having experienced the compassionate care hospice provided to both her parents, she saw this as a meaningful way to give back. Before long, she was asked to become the company’s Volunteer Coordinator — a role that allowed her to combine her communication skills with her heart for service.
“I saw this as an opportunity to give back and make a difference, especially in the Black community,” Janice shared. “The Black community is woefully underserved.”
When St. Croix Hospice later acquired the organization, Janice transitioned seamlessly to the team, continuing her important work. “St. Croix Hospice taking over allowed us to bloom and grow,” she said.
As we celebrate National Hospice and Palliative Care Month, we honor Janice Fuller-Roberts for her compassion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to serving others. Her story is a powerful reminder that when care and community come together, lives are transformed.
