A Wish Takes Flight

St. Croix Hospice prides itself on being there for the patients and families we serve when they need us most. For 36-year-old Brittnee, that moment came with a simple but deeply meaningful wish: to fly in a small airplane.

When Social Worker Jackie Neubauer and the care team at the Harrisonville, Missouri, branch learned of Brittnee’s wish, they didn’t hesitate to act. They reached out to community connections, hoping to find a pilot willing to help make her dream a reality. What they received was far more than expected — five pilots volunteered their time and talents to help Brittnee take to the skies.

With arrangements finalized with experienced pilot Brad, the long-anticipated day arrived. On a sunny afternoon, Brittnee boarded the plane alongside her fiancé, Andrew, and daughter, Maddee. As the aircraft lifted off, a group of family members watched and cheered from the runway, sharing in the excitement of the moment.

When the plane touched back down, Brittnee and her loved ones didn’t need words — their smiles said everything.

For Brittnee and her family, this experience was much more than a plane ride. It was a chance to create a lasting memory together, filled with joy, connection and love.

Thank you to Jackie and everyone at the Harrisonville branch for helping make Brittnee’s wish come true. A local news outlet was also present to document the special day. You can read their story here.
